Co-Create Black, African & Afro-diasporic CommUnity!

Einladung zum Ideenwettbewerb für Community-Zentren in Berlin

Die besten Ideen werden mit 500€ prämiert !

Zukunft mitgestalten

Invitation to partake in the ideation contest for Black community centers in Berlin

The best ideas will be awarded with 500€

Help shape the future

Have you ever dreamt of a community centre by and for Black, African and Afro-diasporic people in Berlin? Maybe your plans for a retirement home for black elders, a publishing house or a social centre are already lying in your drawer? Or you already run a small business and you would like your business to become part of a community centre? For generations there has been the dream of creating community centers by and for Black, African, Afro-diasporic people in Berlin. Together with you we would like to continue to explore this dream and make it come true.

Your creativity is called for!

As part of the project “Into the Future: CommUnity" we invite you to participate in this ideation contest - whether as an individual, collective, initiative or association!

What should a Black, African, Afro-diasporic community centre in Berlin look like? Which modules, offers and services should definitely be included or what would you even want to offer yourselves? Whether restaurant, sports, culture or art programmes, social counselling, smart technologies, child care, language courses, concepts for educational formats, professionalization training, co-working spaces or something completely different - share your ideas with us!

Manifesting the dream

And the best part is: we want to purchase and run a community centre in the district of Wedding in Berlin. As part of the project, we are conducting a study on how a community centre can be implemented in a timely manner. The results of this feasibility study will then be made available to our communities, who have also been dreaming of a community centre (for a long time) and are still fighting for it.

Maybe your idea and concept are the missing building blocks to make a community center become a reality! The evaluation and selection of the submitted ideas will be done by a jury and the five most persuasive submissions will receive an appreciation of 500 Euro each. We hope that in 10 years there will be several centers to meet different needs in our communities.

In brief: Aims of the ideas contest

• We want to collect persuasive ideas and concepts: What should a community center consist of?

• We want to find suitable partners for the concrete project while running a community centre in Berlin Wedding, in order to share the rent and to create a place for Black, African, Afrodiasporic communities together.

Evaluation Criteria

Every idea/ concept submitted will be discussed by the jury, which is made up of experts from the fields of Education, critical anti-discrimination work, diversity-oriented organisational development, capacity building and the promotion of economic development. The jury participants are Miriam Camara, William Chitangala, Saraya Gomis, and Alexander Sipua Ngnoubamdjum.

The contest is open to anyone 14 years of age and older. You can find the form to submit your ideas until 15.04.2021 here:
