25.11.2023 | 1 – 5 pm | CommUnity | *Networking . *Keynote w/ OK Sorted. *Panel | Building Black Spaces

Dear Black Community,

Please join us for a *keynote by Kwame Charles and Onika Simon from OK Sorted. and *panel discussion on the creation and maintenance of Black community centers. Nov 25th 2023, from 1 – 5 PM at EOTO e.V., Togostraße 76, 13351 Berlin.

How do we construct and maintain community centers for People of African Descent in Western contexts? What are the many potentials and challenges of such an endeavor? How do we incorporate the groundwork that has already been conducted elsewhere and which dimensions require special attention to honor the diversity of needs in our communities?

OK Sorted. will share a presentation on the topic of Building Black Spaces - approaching our theme through the lens of design context and communications craft - and illustrating this approach with their work for the Black Cultural Archives in London.

Kwame Charles and Onika Simon are both British West Indians from West London, residents of Wedding since 2014 and co-founders of creative studio OK Sorted. After meeting as colleagues at a design agency in 2010, the strategist and graphic designer began to collaborate on side projects, developing a professional partnership that has included the creation of new brands, the expansion of global brands, audio-visual exhibition design, pro-social campaigns, editorial content for artists and design research in over 20 countries. They married in 2017 and have two sons aged 5 and 2.

26.11.2023 | 1 – 3 pm | CommUnity | *Guided Tour | CommUnity Zentrum (CUZ)

Anmeldungen bitte via Eventbrite hier:

Wir freuen uns auf Euch.

Eure,

EOTOs x CommUnity

Dear community, dear cooperation partners and interested parties of the emerging community centre of EOTO e.V.,

On Sunday, 26.11.23 between 13:00 and 15:00 we would like to invite you for a guided tour through the new CommUnity Centre (CUZ) followed by a networking opportunity and a Q&A.
Please note: The tour will be mainly in English spoken language. We will endeavour to find an interpreter for German spoken language.

Community centres have always been catalysts of change and growth, places of the real and the possible for marginalised social groups. Such places accentuate what is and create space for what can still be. The Black Berlin Empowerment Platform, political advocacy group and library "Each One Teach One (EOTO) e.V." is seeking financial and non-material support for the acquisition of a property to create a community centre for the Berlin communities of African origin and is the initiating motor in this process of creating a future community centre. People of African descent in Berlin are not homogeneous groups, but consist of diverse communities that can look back on a history of developing community-based approaches to criticising racism, empowerment and work on resilience.
We would like to invite all the different actors in Berlin's communities of African descent to contribute their ideas and wishes, utilisation concepts and visions that cover the diverse needs of Black communities.

Guided tour through the CommUnity Centre (CUZ) next Sunday, 26.11.23 between 13:00 and 15:00 at Togostraße 76, 13351 Berlin.

Please register via this Eventbrite link.

We look forward to seeing you.
