please join us on Monday, Dec 4, 2023 at 7:30 pm – 9 pm for an open rehearsal of The String Archestra at Each One Teach One (EOTO) e.V., Togostr. 76, 13351 Berlin!

At this evening The String Archestra will present and comment on some of the pieces they will perform publicly later that month under the title »String Archestra Goes Ghibli«.

Their 9th season “The String Archestra Goes Ghibli”, The String Archestra is paying homage to Japanese composers with very different destinies and reception histories. Yasushi Akutagawa’s was the child of very well-known writer Ryūnosuke Akutagawa and the first Japanese composer to be published in Soviet Union in the 50s of 20th century. His great work however was ignored by western European and North American contemporary classical music programmers and music-historians. The String Archestra played Akutagawa for the first time 2018. With Joe Hisaishi The String Archestra plays the music of the super Star composer of Hayao Miyazaki‘s animations.

The String Archestra was founded in 2016 by the scholar and dramaturg Dr. Dr. Daniele G. Daude to promote the work of Black, Indigenous, and Composers of Color, who have been erased from concert repertories and canonical classical music history. In 2021, the String Archestra won the TONALi Award in the category “Umbruch” and performed at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. The String Archestra collaborates with a wide range of composers such as Ayanna Witter-Johnson, Anthony R. Green, Jessie Montgomery, MARIAMA, Shannon Sea and Shelly Phillips.
