The Nigerian artist has challenged himself to document life in megacities - especially in rapidly growing African cities such as Lagos, Johannesburg, Cairo and Kinshasa. His works impressively prove how people communicate with each other today, how they coexist, how space is negotiated and what is perceived as private and what as public space.

Akinbiyi studied in Nigeria, England and Germany, and has been working as a photographer, curator and writer in Berlin for more than 25 years. As a transformer and mediator between worlds, he recently founded an intercultural art school: together with the Goethe-Institut Nigeria, he initiated a masterclass for young photographers, which has developed into a border-crossing project for networking photography schools in Africa.

Der nigerianische Künstler hat sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, das Leben in Megacities zu dokumentieren – insbesondere in rapide wachsenden afrikanischen Großstädten wie Lagos, Johannesburg, Kairo und Kinshasa. Seine Arbeiten legen ein eindrückliches Zeugnis davon ab, wie Menschen heute miteinander kommunizieren, nebeneinander existieren, wie Raum verhandelt wird und was noch als privater und was als öffentlicher Raum wahrgenommen wird.

Noah Anderson (he/him) works as a cultural manager and programme curator on topics such as black empowerment, decolonization and queer futures in the cultural sector and creative industries. He studied in London, Cologne and Istanbul (BA & MA). In 2023 he co-edited and curated the queer poetry anthology “Parabolis Virtualis 3”. In 2024 he curated and directed the Black culture festival THE NEW BLACK by BMG and is part of the curatorial team of re:publica 24 as senior program curator.

Prof. Dr. Maureen Maisha Auma is an educational scientist and gender researcher. She was Professor of Childhood and Difference (Diversity Studies) at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences from 2008 to 2022. Between 2014 and 2019, she was a visiting professor at Humboldt University Berlin, at the Center for Transdisciplinary Gender Studies. 2020 - 2021 she was a visiting professor at the Center for Interdisciplinary Women's and Gender Studies at TU Berlin. She was the first DiGENet Visiting Professor, Audre Lorde Chair for Intersectional Diversity Studies, Diversity and Gender Equality Network of the Berlin University Alliance (BUA) 2021 - 2022. She was Visiting Professor for Intersectional Diversity Studies from 2022 to 2024, as part of the Intersectional Black European Studies Project at ZIFG, TU Berlin. She is currently Visiting Professor for Gender & Diversity at the University Center for Women's and Gender Studies (UZFG), Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt and Visiting Fellow at the Center for Interdisciplinary Gender Studies Innsbruck (CGI), University of Innsbruck. She is the first spokesperson of the Regional Network East, in the Knowledge Network Racism Research, WinRa, BMBF (2022 - 2027). Since 2023 she has been Executive Officer in the Leadership Team on the Board of the transnational professional association “Association for the Study of the Worldwide African Diaspora, ASWAD, based in the United States. Her research focuses on diversity in educational materials in East and West Germany, sex education empowerment for Black people and people of color in Germany, critical whiteness research, anti-Blackness, childhood research, intersectionality in the context of critical race theory and critique of racism. She has been active in the Black feminist self-organization Generation Adefra, Black Women* in Germany, since 1993. Together with Peggy Piesche and Katja Kinder, she was part of the scientific team Diversifying Matters, a specialist group of Generation Adefra, which carried out the Berlin consultation process “Making the discrimination situation and social resilience of people of African descent in Berlin visible” in 2018 and, building on this, drew up a catalog of measures for the equality of Afro-diasporic people and the reduction of anti-Black racism, also on behalf of the Berlin Senate in 2021.

Betiel Berhe, born in 1982, is an economist, author and activist. In the past, she has worked for numerous international organizations and NGOs. Today she is active in various networks critical of racism, gives lectures, workshops and advises on social justice issues such as class, gender, racism, migration and education.

Her first book "Nie mehr leise" (No More Silent), was published in 2023 and describes the relationship between race and class in contemporary capitalism.

Maïmouna Coulibaly is an artist, activist, author, dancer, actress and director with roots in Mali and Grigny (France). In 1996, she developed the concept of "Booty Therapy", a therapeutic art form designed to help women and sexual minorities rediscover their femininity. In 2021, Maïmouna published her book "Je me relève", which was published by Anne Carrière. The newspaper Le Monde reports on her book: "Maïmouna Coulibaly tells the story of sexist violence from the perspective of a little girl, a teenager and then a young woman, in fragments of life marked by an explosive sense of humor and a consummate art of the punch line."

BOOTY THERAPY, a concept created by Maïmouna Coulibaly, is a practice that combines sport, dance and personal development.
Through this concept, we advocate accepting oneself as one is, accepting one's physical appearance, accepting one's history, apprehending one's emotions and releasing them in a healthy and safe space, surrounded by caring people.
Building on this, people can release their emotions and heal some of their traumas and trials through collective exercises.

Maïmouna Coulibaly ist eine Künstlerin, Aktivistin, Autorin, Tänzerin, Schauspielerin und Regisseurin mit Wurzeln in Mali und Grigny (Frankreich). Novelist, playwright, cultural activist and prize-winning filmmaker Tsitsi Dangarembga studied psychology at the University of Zimbabwe. She obtained her MA in Directing at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin. She is known for her trilogy of novels set in her home country, comprising NERVOUS CONDITIONS (1988), THE BOOK OF NOT (2006), and the 2020 Booker Prize nominated THIS MOURNABLE BODY (2018), as well as for her collection of essays BLACK AND FEMALE (2022). Selected literary awards includes English Pen’s Pinter Prize (2021), The German Peace Prize (2021), Yale University’s Windham Campbell Prize (2022) and the Pen Catalan Free Voice Award (2023).

Amongst other prestigious residencies, Dangarembga is a former fellow of the Rockefeller Bellagio Centre (2016) and the Radcliffe Institute, Harvard University (2022-23). She was the 2021-22 International Chair in Creative Writing (Africa) at the University of East Anglia, organising literary training and production events in five African countries, with an output of three publications. She has taught and spoken at leading African, European and American universities.

Daniele G. Daude (Dr. Dr. phil.) is a scholar, violinist, choirmaster and dramaturge. Daniele graduated with honors in music (violin and chamber music) from the Conservatoire National (CNR) Région Aubervilliers in 2001. Daniele received his doctorate in theater studies from the German Free University in 2011 and in musicology from the Université Paris 8 in 2013. Daniele has been teaching at German and French universities since 2008. From 2013-2015, Daniele was a visiting professor at the Department of Performing Arts at the Campus Caribéen des Arts University (Martinique). In 2016 Daniele founded The String Archestra to promote works by BIPoC composers in the German classical music landscape. In 2023 Daniele was artistic director and managing director of the Theater Ringlokschuppen Ruhr.

Ibou Coulibaly Diop (1979, Segatta) is a literary scholar, curator and lecturer. He is a jury member of the International Literature Prize of the House of World Cultures and regularly publishes on the literature of transculturality and the significance of African literature in the world of tomorrow. For the Berlin Senate, he is working on a remembrance concept for colonialism and for the Berlin City Museum Foundation he is active in the decolonization competence centre. Diop lives and works in Berlin.

Anni Domingo, Actress, Director, and Writer, works extensively in Radio, TV, Films and Theatre. She trained at Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama, later obtaining a BA Honours (First Class) in Literature, another BA Honours (First Class) in Humanities (with Creative Writing) and an MA in Creative Writing at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. She has worked in America, Europe, Africa and in many theatres around UK including The National Theatre and performing in Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park at Watermill Theatre. Anni works regularly as a Theatre Director. She currently lectures on Drama and directs at several Drama Colleges, Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama, The Royal Central College of Speech and Drama, St Mary’s University and at The Royal Academy of Speech and Drama. Her poems and short stories are published in various anthologies including Wild Imperfections, published by Penguin in November 2021. Anni’s novel Breaking the Maafa Chain was short-listed for the Lucy Cavendish First novel Competition and longlisted for Mslexia novel competition 2019. She won a place at Hedgebrook Writers in Residence Programme in Seattle and the National Writing Centre’s Escalator programme in Norwich. An extract from her novel Breaking the Maafa Chain won the Myriad Editions First Novel competition and is featured in the New Daughters of Africa (2019) anthology edited by Margaret Busby. Her debut novel, Breaking the Maafa Chain, was published in September 2021, by Jacaranda Books, UK and by Pegasus Books, USA in 2022. She is now working on her second novel Ominira as part of her PhD at Kings College, London.

Professor Ainehi Edoro-Glines is a Nigerian academic of Esan descent. She is a Vilas Mellon Morgridge Assistant Professor of English at the university of Wisconsin-Madison where she teaches and researches African literature and digital culture, in addition to holding a joint faculty appointment in the African Cultural Studies Department. She graduated summa cum laude in English from Morgan State University before completing a PhD at Duke University. Prof. Edoro-Glines is the Editor of Brittle Paper, a leading online platform dedicated to African writing and literary culture, which she founded in 2010. This has placed her at the epicenter of literary culture as reinvented by digital and social media technology. She is working on her first book titled “Forest Imaginaries: How African Novels Think.” The book traces a literary history of the African novel through the representation of forests in fiction. Her journal article, titled “Unruly Archives: Literary Form and the Social Media Imaginary,” is forthcoming in English Literary History, a journal published by Johns Hopkins University Press. The article looks at what social media can teach literary scholars about literature. In 2018, she made Okay Africa’s Top 100 Women list in honor of her work in media and publishing. She has given lectures at Yale University, University of Stuttgart, Northwestern University, and elsewhere. Logan February is a multidisciplinary Nigerian poet living in Berlin. Author of In the Nude (Ouida Poetry, 2019) and three chapbooks of poetry, their writing appears in Berlin Quarterly, jubilat, Washington Square Review, The Poetry Project's The Recluse, and elsewhere, including collected editions in Spanish and German. They have worked as Editor-in-Chief at Sycamore Review, and also edited Queering the Nigerian Divine (ANMLY, 2023). A 2024 Literature Fellow of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program, February has received other fellowships from the Cave Canem Foundation and Literarisches Colloquium Berlin, as well as the Future Awards Africa Prize for Literature. Angela Guerreiro, of Afro-descent, father from Ndalatando (Angola) and mother from Ferreira do Alentejo (Portugal), was born in Lisbon in 1965. She is a mother, independent dance artist, dance mentor, festival and conference curator, producer, researcher, activist, dance movement therapist and somatic movement educator. She trained in classical dance according to the system of the Royal Academy of Dance (1975-86), studied at the Escola Superior de Dança in Lisbon (1986-89) and at the Center of New Dance Development in Arnhem (1989-91). She completed her Master's degree in Dance and Movement Therapy (2015). Trained in Somatic Movement Therapy Training (DE-SMTT). Started the somatic training program Baby Body Mind Dancing (BaBoMiDa) TM, an offshoot of BodyMind Dancing TM.

Started her PhD in the Post-Colonialisms and Global Citizenship program at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra (2023). His choreographic career began with: “Ruas” (1987), 1st Dance Competition of the Mostra de Artes e Ideias de Lisboa, winner of the “Quality Prize”; “Afinal descobrimos que o desejo é voar”, Lisbon (1988), winner of the “Audience Prize”, 1st Artejo, a dance competition for young choreographers organized by Rui Horta. From 1991-94 she was a member of João Fiadeiro's RE.Al Company. Choreographer at Kampnagel Hamburg (1995-2002), an internationally renowned theater that presents her creations internationally. She independently creates and produces two solos, 'Exposure' (2003) and 'Memory Play' (2004), presented in an alternative and collaborative space, the Hamburg Embassy. Initiated, directed and produced the festival 'DanceKiosk-Hamburg', an annual gathering for contemporary dance in Hamburg (2005-2016). He produces the projects: 'Kiosk.Company', 'DanceKiosk. Goes Island', 'Tracing Dance from Addis Ababa to Nairobi and Hamburg' (2008-10), 'dance beyond borders' (project funded by the European Union) and 'SURVIVING DANCE - Art - Economy - Politics'. In 2011 she was described in the magazine Tanz Jahrbuch 2011 as “one of the last independent activists in contemporary dance”. She highlights the following projects: 'The Live Legacy Project: Correspondences between German Contemporary Dance and the Judson Dance Theater Movement', funded by the institution TANZFONDS ERBE (2023-14); a research grant that culminated in the installation 'Me and My White Skeleton' about the presence of black bodies in Europe (2020-21); the project 'Digitizing the Archive from 1994-2016 - Angela Guerreiro Productions (AGP)', funded by NEUSTART KULTUR, DIS-TANZEN (2021). I am somewhat of a dabbler, choosing to focus on diversity in my life experience and avoiding long-term specialisation. I choose and create work that is centered around the rehabilitation of the esteem/ego of Afro-descendant peoples and the empowerment of Africans across the globe, with focus on mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being and celebration.

Currently, my focus is on telling stories of creation, mythology, spirituality and philosophy from around Africa through the Kasvikiro calligraphy project. I'm also interested in celebrating African identities through food, by showcasing our regional interpretations of ingredients that often have commonality or analogues across the continent and diaspora. Celebrating our uniqueness while recognising the familiar in all of us, we're more similar than we know.

Daniel Gyamerah is the Director of the Center for Data-driven Empowerment, Leadership and Advocacy (zedela). Previously, he worked for Citizens For Europe (CFE) for seven years, most recently as Head of Division, where he played a key role in shaping the professional and community discourse on anti-discrimination and equality data as well as anti-racism advocacy work in Germany. For the past 10 years, he has volunteered as Chairman of Each One Teach One (EOTO), where he is responsible for the development of a neighborhood initiative into a nationwide central actor for the strengthening of Black, African and Afro-diasporic communities in Germany and Europe. He is a founding member of the board of the New German Organizations, a member of the board of trustees of the Hertie School of Governance and a deputy member of the advisory board of the Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency. He is passionate about the development of anti-discrimination strategies and concepts as well as the institutionalization of empowerment.

Jacqueline Hahn, short: Jaqui, is a passionate athlete and active competitor. Her aim is to familiarize the young workshop participants with selected basic techniques and control positions of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and to give them an insight into the world of martial arts in an accessible and fun way.

During the workshop we will dive into the basics of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/ Grappling. This martial art focuses on ground fighting and emphasizes the use of technique over strength. This makes it accessible to people of all sizes and strengths.

Nikole Hannah-Jones is the Pulitzer Prize-winning creator of the 1619 Project and a staff writer at The New York Times Magazine. The book version of The 1619 Project as well as the 1619 Project children's book, Born on the Water, were instant #1 New York Times bestsellers. Her 1619 Project is now a six-part docuseries on Hulu and won the Emmy for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series. Hannah-Jones has spent her career investigating racial inequality and injustice, and her reporting has earned her the MacArthur Fellowship, known as the Genius grant, a Peabody Award, two George Polk Awards and the National Magazine Award three times. She also serves as the Knight Chair of Race and Journalism at Howard University, where she founded the Center for Journalism & Democracy. Hannah-Jones is also the co-founder of the Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Reporting, which seeks to increase the number of investigative reporters and editors of color, and in 2022 she opened the 1619 Freedom School, a free, afterschool literacy program in her hometown of Waterloo, Iowa. Hannah-Jones holds a Master of Arts in Mass Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned her Bachelor of Arts in History and African-American studies from the University of Notre Dame.

Justin Hansford founded the Thurgood Marshall Civil Rights Center in Fall 2017. Professor Hansford was previously a Democracy Project Fellow at Harvard University, a visiting professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center, and an associate professor of Law at Saint Louis University. He has a B.A. from Howard University and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was a founder of the Georgetown Journal of Law and Modern Critical Race Perspectives. Hansford also has received a Fulbright Scholar award to study the legal career of Nelson Mandela, and served as a clerk for Judge Damon J. Keith on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Hansford is a leading scholar and activist in the areas of critical race theory, human rights, and law and social movements. He is a co-author of the forthcoming Seventh Edition of “Race, Racism and American Law,” the celebrated legal textbook that was the first casebook published specifically for teaching race-related law courses. His interdisciplinary scholarship has appeared in academic journals at various universities, including Harvard, Georgetown, Fordham, and the University of California at Hastings. In the wake of the killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, Hansford worked to empower the Ferguson community through community-based legal advocacy. He co-authored the Ferguson to Geneva human rights shadow report and accompanied the Ferguson protesters and Mike Brown’s family to Geneva, Switzerland, to testify at the United Nations. He has served as a policy advisor for proposed post-Ferguson reforms at the local, state, and federal level, testifying before the Ferguson Commission, the Missouri Advisory Committee to the United States Civil Rights Commission, the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing, and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. In 2021 Hansford was elected as a member of the United Nations Permanent Forum on People of African Descent.

Craig Harris is a trombonist, composer, bandleader, and gifted sonic shaman. Seeking an inspired career, he skillfully navigated his musical journey that began when touring with the inimitable Sun Ra, onto a path affirming Craig’s place in performance with and among the ranks of creative music’s most progressive thought leaders. With a repertoire of various-sized ensembles, including Nation of Imagination, Tailgater’s Tales and Harlem Nightsongs, Craig has amassed an extensive discography of his own recorded work in addition to contributing to the musical projects of his many esteemed colleagues.

Steeped in the tradition of using art as cultural facilitation to promote change, Craig has flexed his musical voice to comment on social injustice and humanity with influential original works including God’s Trombones, based on James Weldon Johnson’s book of sermons; Souls Within the Veil, commemorating the 100th anniversary of W.E.B. DuBois’s seminal work; TriHarlenium, a sound portrait and 30-year musical time capsule of Harlem; Brown Butterfly, a tribute to the exquisite movements of Muhammad Ali; and BREATHE, a sonic statement in response to the long term and current injustices inflicted upon African American people.

Previously known as Dj Noss, Marcel JEAN-BAPTISTE is now known as Mawongany.

As an artist, his compositions, performances and scenographies bring together the organic and the technological. His creations inspire freedom, rootedness and intimacy with the non-human. He proposes the concept of MétaBèlè, the metamorphosis of Martinique's ancestral music, the Bèlè. He suggests updating it to meet contemporary and future challenges.

As an activist, he founded Permactivie, which puts permaculture, vernacular thought and the arts at the service of the environment. Linkage, anchoring and experimentation are the invariables of the projects carried out within this structure.

Als Künstler gehen seine Kompositionen, Performances und Bühnenbilder eine Symbiose von Organischem und Technologischem ein. Seine Kreationen inspirieren zu Freiheit, Verwurzelung und Vertrautheit mit dem Nicht-Menschlichen. Er schlägt das Konzept des MetaBèlè vor, die Metamorphose der uralten Musik Martiniques, des Bèlè. Er schlägt vor, es zu aktualisieren, damit es den zeitgenössischen und zukünftigen Herausforderungen am besten gerecht wird.

Elisabeth Kaneza is a legal scholar, human rights expert and activist. She completed her doctorate at the Faculty of Law at the University of Potsdam on equal rights for black people in Germany. As a former Senior Fellow of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, she has been campaigning for the visibility and implementation of the International Decade for People of African Descent in Germany and Europe since 2015. In February 2022, Dr. Elisabeth Kaneza was appointed by the German government to the Advisory Board of the UN Decade for People of African Descent.

Dayan Kodua, born in Ghana and raised in Kiel/Germany, is an actress, speaker, author and the founder of Gratitude Verlag (Gratitude Publishing). She actively promotes the visibility of BIPoC, published the illustrated book My Black Skin and initiated a traveling exhibition. Her publishing house promotes various stories and sensitizes children to their inner strength through books such as Wenn meine Haare sprechen könnten (If my hair could talk) and Odo. She was awarded the German Publishing Prize 2023 and recognized as a creative and cultural pilot.

Tonderai Koschke is an architectural researcher and educator. She is a lecturer at Weissensee School of Art and Universität der Künste Berlin, focusing on post-colonial identities and power dynamics in the built environment. Having studied at TU Munich, EPFL Lausanne, and Harvard, she has worked at Architangle publishers, Boltshauser Architekten, and as a curatorial assistant at the Architecture Museum in Munich. She also co-founded Isusu Ffena, a pan-Afrikan collective based in Berlin, that produces events and a community festival.

Tonderai Koschke, M.A. Architektur, ist Dozentin an der Kunsthochschule Weißensee und der Universität der Künste Berlin. Ihr Forschungs- und Lehrschwerpunkt liegt auf postkolonialen Identitäten und Machtdynamiken in der gebauten Umwelt. Nach ihrem Studium an der TU München, der EPFL Lausanne und Harvard, sammelte sie berufliche Erfahrungen beim Verlag Architangle, bei Boltshauser Architekten und am Architekturmuseum in München. Als Mitbegründerin von dem panafrikanischem Kollektiv Isusu Ffena organisiert sie Veranstaltungen und ein Community-Festival.

Dr. phil. Marion Kraft, former senior academic advisor, Afro-German author, editor and translator, born in Gelsenkirchen in 1946. After secondary school and an apprenticeship, worked as a foreign language correspondent until 1969. In 1970 she graduated from evening school in Mannheim and subsequently worked for the Council of the European Community in Brussels. From 1971 she studied English/American Studies, German Studies and Philosophy in Cologne and Frankfurt/M. In 1974 she taught German at Ohio State University, Columbus, USA. After her return to Germany, she passed her 1st and 2nd state examinations for the teaching profession at grammar schools at the University of Frankfurt am Main. She then taught at a grammar school in Frankfurt and from 1979 to 1982 taught German as a foreign language at the Goethe-Institut in Göttingen. She then taught literature, English and women's studies at the Oberstufen-Kolleg at the University of Bielefeld for 30 years, interrupted by a guest professorship at the University of Osnabrück, where she completed her doctorate in 1994. Her dissertation The African Continnum and African American Women Writers was published by Peter Lang Verlag in 1995.

The analysis and reception of works by Black women writers is also the focus of Marion Kraft's literary and didactic essays. Other key topics include the examination of various manifestations of racism and the international women's movement.

Marion Kraft has given numerous lectures at home and abroad. As a cultural worker, she emphasizes the importance of intercultural learning in all her activities. She was also inspired by the African-American poet Audre Lorde, with whom she had a long friendship. The collection of essays Empowering Encounters with Audre Lorde is a tribute to this great author, who had a decisive influence on the Black movement in Germany.

In addition to several essays, Marion Kraft has translated the book Children of Liberation, which she edited, into English and a volume of selected poems by Audre Lorde into German: Die Quelle unserer Macht, Berlin, Orlanda Frauenverlag, published by Unrast-Verlag in 1994. Marion Kraft is the translator of Emma Dabiri, Was weiße Menschen jetzt tun können, Ullstein, 2022 and the young adult book Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls. 100 Lebensgeschichten Schwarzer Frauen, Hanser, 2021 as well as co-translator of the essay collections Sister Outsider (Hanser 2021) and Ein strahlendes Licht(Kampa 2021) by Audre Lorde and the poetry collection Was mir mit uns tragen - Call Us What We Carry by Amanda Gorman (Hoffmann & Campe 2022).

Dr. phil. Marion Kraft, Akademische Oberrätin a.D., Afro-Deutsche Autorin, Herausgeberin und Übersetzerin, geboren 1946  in Gelsenkirchen. Nach der Realschule und einer Lehre bis 1969 Arbeit als Fremdsprachenkorespondentin. 1970 Abitur am Abendgymnasium Mannheim und anscließend Angestellte beim Rat der Europäischen Gemeinschaft in Brüssel. Von 1971 Studium der Anglistik/Amerikanistik, Germanistik und Philosophie in Köln und Frankfurt/M. 1974  Deutschlehrerin an der Ohio State University, Columbus, USA. Nach ihrer Rückkehr nach Deutschland legte sie ihr 1. und 2. Staatsexamen für das Lehramt an Gymnasien an der Universität Frankfurt/M. ab. Im Anschluss unterrichtete sie zunächst an einem Frankfurter Gymnasium und von 1979 bis 1982 Deutsch als Fremdsprache am Goethe-Institut in Göttingen. Danach war sie 30 Jahre Lehrende für Literatur, Englisch und Frauenstudien am Oberstufen-Kolleg an der Universität Bielefeld, unterbrochen von einer Gastprofessur an der Universität Osnabrück, wo sie 1994 promovierte. Ihre Dissertation The African Continnum and African American Women Writers erschien 1995 im Peter Lang Verlag.

Die Analyse und Rezeption von Werken Schwarzer Autzorinnen bildet auch den Fokus von Marion Krafts literaturwissenschaftlichen und didaktischen Essays. Weitere Themenschwerpunkte sind die Auseinandersetzung mit verschiedenen Erscheinungsformen des Rassismus und mit der internationalen Frauenbewegung.

Marion Kraft hat zahlrieiche Vorträge im In- und Ausland gehalten. Als Kulturschaffende betont sie in allen ihren Tätigkeiten die Bedeutung des interkulturellen Lernens. Inspiriert wurde sie dabei auch von der afrikanisch amerikanischen Dichterin Audre Lorde, mit der sie eine lange Freundschaft verband. Die Essaysammlung Empowering Encounters with Audre Lorde ist eine Hommage an diese große Autorin, die die Schwarze Bewegung in Deutschland entscheidend mitgeprägt hat.

Melody Makeda Ledwon (she/her) is a translator, interpreter and educationalist. She translates into German and English. Her work focuses on Afro-diasporic literature. She takes a critical approach to power and discrimination in her work. (She has (co-)translated Combahee River Collective - A Black Feminist Statement, Angela Davis - An Autobiography and Multidirectional Memory and Interwoven Histories, among others.) Born in 1986 in Douala, Max LOBE is a Swiss-Cameroonian novelist, short story writer, and poet. Among the topics which transcend his work, Black African homosexuality, migration and post-colonial studies are recurrent. He is openly gay. At eighteen, he moved to Switzerland where he earned a BA in communication and journalism (Lugano) and a master’s in public policy and administration (Lausanne). In 2017, his novel Confidences on the war of independence of Cameroon won the Ahmadou Kourouma Prize. Other books by the author include 39 rue de Berne, La Trinité bantoue, and La Promesse de Sa Phall’Excellence (Jan 2021), a burlesque, fantastic and erotic novel on tyranny. All his books are published in French at Zoé Publisher in Geneva. His first translated novel in English, A Long way from Douala, was published in Feb 2021 by HopeRoad Publishing in UK and by Other Press in the USA. Many He's translated in many other languages. Inspired by both the traditions of Black African literature and folk tales and by the realities of the immigrant experience in Switzerland, Max Lobe’s work stands out for its vibrant, accessible depictions of his characters’ lives. Tackling serious and important issues such as homophobia, religion, violence and the plight of undocumented migrants, Lobe’s narrators are sparky and unpretentious, full of life and humor. His books are light and readable, and at the same time deeply serious and important. They have a wide and enduring appeal. He also created and ruled the project GenevAfrica to build bridges between African and Swiss authors. Max Lobe lives in Geneva and dedicates his life to literature.

Mirrianne Mahn was born in Buea/Cameroon in 1989 and grew up in a small village in the Hunsrück region. She now lives in Frankfurt, where she works as an activist and dramatist against discrimination and racism. She is a consultant for diversity development and anti-discrimination and has been a city councillor in Frankfurt am Main since 2021. In recognition of her political commitment, she was named one of the 100 Women of the Year 2021 by FOCUS magazine.

She blends African, Caribbean, and Arab influences into her work which she shares globally. Martinez also hosts monthly shows at NTS and Radio Alhara. Additionally, she contributes to cultural discourse in galleries, museums, and art spaces settings. Her writing has been featured in publications such as The Funambulist Paris.

Prof Dr Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung is a curator, author, and biotechnologist. He is the founder and was Artistic Director of SAVVY Contemporary Berlin, 2009–22; Artistic Director of sonsbeek 20–>24, Arnhem, 2020–22; Artistic Director of 14th Rencontres de Bamako, Mali, 2022; Curator of the Finnish Pavilion, 58th Venice Biennale, 2019; Guest Curator of the Dakar Biennale of Contemporary African Art, 2018; and Curator-at-Large of documenta 14, Athens & Kassel, 2017. Rémy Ngamije is a Rwandan-born Namibian author, editor, publisher, photographer, literary educator, and entrepreneur. His debut novel The Eternal Audience Of One was first published in South Africa by Blackbird Books and is available worldwide from Scout Press (S&S). In 2022 it was honoured with a Special Mention at the inaugural Grand Prix Panafricain De Litterature and won the inaugural African Literary Award from the Museum of the African Diaspora.

He won the Africa Regional Prize of the 2021 Commonwealth Short Story Prize and was shortlisted for the AKO Caine Prize for African Writing in 2021 and 2020. He was longlisted and shortlisted for the 2020 and 2021 Afritondo Short Story Prizes respectively. In 2019 he was shortlisted for Best Original Fiction by Stack Magazines.

Rémy is the founder and chairperson of Doek, an independent arts organisation in Namibia supporting the literary arts and the editor-in-chief of Doek! Literary Magazine, Namibia's first and only literary magazine. He is also the founder and director of several literary initiatives such as the Bank Windhoek Doek Literary Awards, the Doek Literary Festival, and the Doek Anthology.

He has served as a judge of the Kalemba, Kendeka, and Commonwealth short story prizes.

His fiction, nonfiction, and poetry have appeared in The Johannesburg Review of Books, Lolwe, LitHub, Granta, and One Story among many other publications.

Azu Nwagbogu is an internationally acclaimed curator, interested in evolving new models of engagement with questions of decolonization, restitution, and repatriation. Nwagbogu is the Founder and Director of African Artists’ Foundation (AAF), a non-profit organisation based in Lagos, Nigeria and the Founder and Director of LagosPhoto Festival, an international arts festival of photography. He is the publisher of Art Base Africa, a National Geographic Society Explorer at Large, and the curator of the first ever Republic of Benin pavilion for the 2024 Venice Biennale.

Prince Ofori was born in Ghana in 1988 and is the founder of the artist collective M.I.K. Family. He has been dancing since 2004 and specializes in krumping and hip-hop freestyle. He is considered a pioneer of krumping in Europe. He has been working as a dance teacher and dance coach since 2005. Prince is known in the battle scene as a successful freestyle dancer. He has been involved in various music video and television productions and was one of the first to bring krumping to the German theater stage. Since then, he has performed in various theater productions throughout Europe. He stands out not only for his successful participation in international dance events and battles, but also for organizing them. Music is many things to him, but above all a remedy. Since 2017, he has also enriched festivals, parties, battles and various events as a DJ. In summer 2022 he was the opening act for Seeed on tour. Since 2023 he has been Creative Director of the Peter Fox Live Tour. He is artistic director, curator and organizer of the CDC Festival. As chairman of MINCE e.V., he works as artistic director for dance theater projects and projects in the field of cultural education in Berlin. He is currently a youth social worker at EOTO e.V.

Seit 2023 ist er Creative Director der Peter Fox Live Tour. Er ist künstlerischer Leiter, Kurator und Veranstalter des CDC Festivals. Sharon Dodua Otoo is a writer and political activist. Otoo won the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize in 2016 with her text »Herr Gröttrup setzt sich hin« (Mr. Gröttrup is sitting down). Her first novel Adas Raum (Ada’s Realm) was published by S. Fischer Verlag in 2021 and has been translated into several languages. In collaboration with the Ruhrfestspiele, she curates the black literature festival »Resonanzen«.

Nii Kwate Owoo is a Ghanaian academic and filmmaker. He studied direction, camera and editing at the London Film School (1968–71) and at Isleworth Polytechnic, London. His documentary film You Hide Me on looted and stolen African cultural heritage is considered the first from English-speaking independent Africa. It was shot in 1970 in England, where he was part of the Cinema Action film collective. Owoo has been producer and director on a number of other notable film projects. In 2024 the Ghanaian Ministry of Arts and Culture appointed him as the Vice Chair of the newly established Ghana National Board for Restitution to campaign for the return of stolen and looted artifacts from European and American Museums. He is the godfather of Afrolution 2024.

Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor burst into the literary limelight in 2003 when she won the Caine Prize for African Writing. Her writing, both fiction and nonfiction, captivates readers with its take on the human condition drawn from a variety of African sensibilities in resonant ways. Her writing is a constant search for ways that language—as poetry and as witness—shape our imagination of space, time archetypes, and memory. Whether in a novel like Dust (2014), a short story like Weight of Whispers, or her 2019 The Dragonfly Sea, an oceanic coming-of-age story.

Nigerian-German Olumide Popoola has published essays, poetry, short stories, novels, and a play. Olumide has a PhD in creative writing and has taught and lectured widely in creative writing. She is the creator and leader of the Arts Council funded scheme for emerging LGBTQ+ writers, ‘The Future is Back’.  Her new novel, Like Water Like Sea is an exploration of mental health, resilience and the necessity of falling apart.

Nicolas Premier lives and works in Paris, France. Through his practice of video, photography and installation, Premier questions modernity on the basis of “off-screen” experiences and knowledge. He is particularly interested in the mutual borrowing relationships that exist between African diasporas. Premier also engages in transdisciplinary co-creations with Africa Is The Future (AITF), a fluctuating entity and platform for formal and conceptual experimentation.

Chantal-Fleur Sandjon was born in Berlin, where she now lives again after living in Johannesburg, London and Frankfurt. As an Afro-German author, editor and spoken word artist, she is particularly interested in the multi-layered portrayal of black life in Germany. Her first verse novel, Die Sonne, so strahlend und Schwarz, won several awards, including the German Youth Literature Prize in 2023. Her latest novel City of Trees was published in May 2024.

Awet Tesfaiesus was born in Asmara in what was then Ethiopia / now Eritrea and fled to Germany with her family as a child due to the Eritrean war of independence. After graduating from high school, she studied law in Heidelberg, was admitted to the bar in 2006 and founded her law firm for asylum issues in Kassel in the same year, which she ran until the end of 2021. In 2009, she joined the Bündnis 90/Die Grünen party and in the following years was active in local politics at Kassel town hall in the areas of equality and anti-discrimination. In 2021, she became the first Black woman to be elected to the German Bundestag. Here she represents the Green parliamentary group in the Legal Affairs Committee and as chairwoman of the Culture and Media Committee.

Awet Tesfaiesus wurde in Asmara im damaligen Äthiopien / heutigen Eritrea geboren und flüchtete mit ihrer Familie als Kind aufgrund des eritreischen Unabhängigkeitskriegs nach Deutschland. Nach dem Abitur studierte sie in Heidelberg Jura, 2006 folgte ihre Zulassung als Rechtsanwältin, im gleichen Jahr gründete sie ihre Rechtsanwaltskanzlei für Asylfragen in Kassel, die sie bis Ende 2021 führte. 2009 trat sie der Partei Bündnis 90/Die Grünen bei und war in den Folgejahren auf kommunalpolitischer Ebene im Kasseler Rathaus in den Bereichen Gleichstellung und Antidiskriminierung tätig. 2021 wurde sie als erste Schwarze Frau in den Deutschen Bundestag gewählt. Hier vertritt sie die Grüne Bundestagsfraktion im Rechtsausschuss sowie als Obfrau im Ausschuss für Kultur und Medien.

Sinthujan Varatharajah is a political geographer, researcher and essayist based in Berlin. Sinthujan's work explores statelessness, mobility and displacement with a focus on infrastructure, logistics and architecture. In 2020, he*she was part of the 11th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art with the research and art installation how to move an ark. In 2018 he*she curated DISSOLVING TERRITORIES | cultural geographies of a new eelam. Sinthujan's first book an alle orte, die hinter uns liegen was published in 2022.

Bek Wa Goro is a Writer, Music Artist, and Technologist based in London. His musical journey is a story of transformation. His path began with self-taught electronic music production, fuelled by a relentless creative spirit while pursuing his Bachelor's Degree in Film/Television and an MBA. It lead to being given the position of Associate Artist at Brixton House in recognition of his artistry (2021-2024). This has allowed him to showcase his distinctive voice alongside his production talent.

In late 2023, Bek Wa Goro debuted with a live performance after being invited to perform at ArtsDepot in North London, followed by his first concert in Kentish Town in March 2024. These performances marked another evolution as he began collaborating with musicians, infusing his electronic artistry with live instrumentation.

As Bek Wa Goro works to complete his PhD in Architectural Space and Computation at the renown Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, his debut album is slated for release in 2024. This album exemplifies his metamorphosis, offering a soulful blend of electronic innovation and heartfelt songwriting.

Wangũi wa Goro, is a multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary, intersectional scholar and public intellectual. She is a Professor of Translation Practice at SOAS and Visiting Professor at Kings’ College London.

She is an acclaimed translator, writer, poet, editor and cultural curator, working across scholarship, community and service in fiction, non-fiction, translation, criticism and review. Her work has been recognised with honorary professorships, fellowships, awards, and global engagement. Best known for her ground-breaking translation of Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o’s Matigari from Gĩkũyũ and Veronique Tadjo’s As the Crow Flies (2001 & 2024) from French, she co-edited the seminal text, Global Feminist Politics, Identities in a Changing World still in wide circulation, with Suki Ali and Kelly Coate (2001).

Wangũi’s life work and commitment is safeguarding and developing African languages, world literatures and heritages, by promoting transnational intersectional freedom through translation and traducture through knowledge management in/and education and cultural practice. She is inspired by the likes of Professors Mĩcere Mũgo, Ama Ata Aidoo, Wangari Mathai and Ouma Katrina. She pioneered translation practice and studies, scholarship and socio-cultural engagement, leadership and service, supporting several institutions internationally, including in elected roles. These include the Translation Caucus of the African Literature Association which she founded, twenty-four years ago. She served on the Executive Council of International Association of Translation Studies (IATIS) and was elected Co-Convenor of the Women’s Caucus of the African Studies Association for a term.

Wangũi has been curating the highly popular Translation Masterclass and Africa in Translation (AiT) series through SIDENSI now in its thirty-fourth year, in different parts of the world.  She is the founder of the Translation Caucus of the African Literature Association now in its 24th Year.

Annabel Wilson is a Black feminist scholar and sociologist of education. She has recently completed a PhD at Cardiff University. Annabel is committed to the study of racialization and educational inequality as it is experienced and reproduced. She currently works as Research Assistant on the ‘Understanding colourism among young people in the UK’ project. Together with Kimberle Crenshaw and Kehinde Andrews Annabel Wilson co-edited Blackness at the Intersection (2024)

Annabel’s PhD research followed the lives of Black ‘mixed race’ young people and their family members, exploring the development of racialized subjectivity and its effects on social action. Her research dwells at the intersections of race, gender, class, and the life course. She is interested in how the significance of ‘race’ is learnt, negotiated, and reproduced through relationships, interactions, and across social space.

She has also conducted research on young people’s experiences of education for Bristol City Council, Health Services for the NHS, and Sexual Exploitation Services for the Police. Previously, Annabel worked as a Research Associate and Project Manager, for Goldsmiths University as part of the Surviving Storms | Caribbean Cyclone Cartography Project (2019-22), funded by the UKRI Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF). From Cardiff University, Annabel has an ESRCfunded PhD in Education and Master’s in Social Research, and from the University of the West of England, she has a PostGraduate Diploma in Business Management, and a BA in Sociology. Annabel Wilson hat im Rahmen ihrer Doktorarbeit das Leben schwarzer „ mixed race“-Jugendlicher und ihrer Familienmitglieder verfolgt und die Entwicklung rassifizierter Subjektivität und deren Auswirkungen auf soziales Handeln untersucht. Ihre Forschung befasst sich mit den Überschneidungen von Rasse, Geschlecht, Klasse und Lebensverlauf. Sie interessiert sich dafür, wie die Bedeutung von „Rasse“ durch Beziehungen, Interaktionen und im sozialen Raum erlernt, verhandelt und reproduziert wird.

Außerdem hat sie für den Stadtrat von Bristol, für den Nationalen Gesundheitsdienst (NHS) und für die Polizei im Bereich der sexuellen Ausbeutung Untersuchungen zu den Erfahrungen junger Menschen mit Bildung durchgeführt. Zuvor arbeitete Annabel als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin und Projektmanagerin für die Goldsmiths University im Rahmen des Projekts Surviving Storms | Caribbean Cyclone Cartography (2019-22), das vom UKRI Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) finanziert wird. An der Cardiff University hat Annabel einen vom ESRC finanzierten Doktortitel in Erziehungswissenschaften und einen Master in Sozialforschung erworben, und an der University of the West of England hat sie ein Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management und einen BA in Soziologie.
