AFROLUTION FESTIVAL 2026 – »African/-Diasporic Pluriverses III: Radical Geographies of Memory, Love and Becoming«

From June 25–28, 2026, the African Quarter in Berlin-Wedding will once again become a space for transnational exchange. Under the title African/-Diasporic Pluriverses III: Radical Geographies of Memory, Love and Becoming, AFROLUTION Festival 2026 presents readings, panel talks, performances — as well as the art gathering: »The Reticular Network: Reclaiming Our Human Connections«, an exhibition curated by Kader Attia —  focusing on interconnected landscapes of memory across Africa and its diasporas — from North Africa to the Caribbean and the Americas.  Drawing on the thought of Frantz Fanon, this year’s edition explores how colonial histories, revolutionary movements, and cultural practices connect across generations and oceans, and how they can inspire new forms of solidarity, healing, and political imagination.

As in the previous editions of the four-year AFROLUTION-Pluriverses series, a historic Pan-African festival serves as the thematic anchor. In 2026, the focus is on the Festival panafricain d’Alger (PANAF), held in Algiers in 1969. Delegations from over 30 African states, liberation movements, and Afro-diasporic activists and artists from the United States, the Caribbean, and Europe — including the Black Panthers, Miriam Makeba, Archie Shepp, and Nina Simone — gathered there to build networks of global solidarity whose influence continues today. PANAF demonstrated how art, music, and performance could function not as »folklore«, but as expressions of political struggle, revolutionary visions, and collective futures.

At a time when neocolonial economic structures, geopolitical inequalities, and Western military presence continue to shape Africa and its diasporas, PANAF reminds us of the unfinished projects of African unity and anti-colonial resistance, while highlighting culture as a space for radical political imagination.

AFROLUTION 2026 once again creates a four-day transdisciplinary platform bringing together African, Afro-diasporic, and Black creatives, intellectuals, and activists from around the world.

Vom 25.–28. Juni 2026 wird das Afrikanische Viertel in Berlin-Wedding erneut zu einem Ort des transnationalen Austauschs. Unter dem Titel African/-Diasporic Pluriverses III: Radical Geographies of Memory, Love and Becoming präsentiert das AFROLUTION Festival 2026 Lesungen, Podiumsgespräche und Performances – ebenso wie das Art Gathering: »The Reticular Network: Reclaiming Our Human Connections«, eine von Kader Attia kuratierte Ausstellung – mit dem Fokus auf miteinander verbundenen Erinnerungslandschaften Afrikas und seiner Diasporas – von Nordafrika bis in die Karibik und die Amerikas. Aufbauend auf dem Denken von Frantz Fanon untersucht die diesjährige Ausgabe, wie koloniale Geschichten, revolutionäre Bewegungen und kulturelle Praktiken über Generationen und Ozeane hinweg miteinander verbunden sind und wie sie neue Formen von Solidarität, Heilung und politischer Imagination inspirieren können.

Wie bereits in den vorherigen Ausgaben der vierjährigen AFROLUTION-Pluriverses-Reihe dient ein historisches panafrikanisches Festival als thematischer Anker. 2026 liegt der Fokus auf dem Festival panafricain d’Alger (PANAF), das 1969 in Algier stattfand. Delegationen aus über 30 afrikanischen Staaten, Befreiungsbewegungen sowie afro-diasporische Aktivist:innen und Künstler:innen aus den den Amerikas und Europa – darunter die Black Panthers, Miriam Makeba, Archie Shepp und Nina Simone – kamen dort zusammen, um Netzwerke globaler Solidarität aufzubauen, deren Einfluss bis heute fortwirkt. PANAF zeigte, wie Kunst, Musik und Performance als Ausdruck politischen Kampfes, revolutionärer Visionen und kollektiver Zukunftsentwürfe verstanden werden können.

In einer Zeit, in der neokoloniale Wirtschaftsstrukturen, geopolitische Ungleichheiten und westliche Militärpräsenz weiterhin Afrika und seine Diasporas prägen, erinnert PANAF an die unvollendeten Projekte afrikanischer Einheit und antikolonialen Widerstands und hebt zugleich Kultur als Raum radikaler politischer Imagination  hervor.

AFROLUTION 2026 schafft erneut eine viertägige transdisziplinäre Plattform, die afrikanische, afro-diasporische und Schwarze Kreative, Intellektuelle und Aktivist:innen aus aller Welt zusammenbringt.
